Footwear
FOR LONG RIDING BOOTS ALL MEASUREMENTS SHOULD BE TAKEN IN THE SITTING POSITION.
LENGTH - Measure around the widest part of calf, over breeches and socks.
HEIGHT - Measure from the floor up to the 'knuckle' on the outside of the knee. Be generous as boots drop with use.
CONTROL - Measurement from the back of the knee directly down to the floor.

Rugs
Measure your horse, the fit is very important. Too tight creates constant discomfort which could result in rubs or sores. Too large lets in draughts and wet. All rugs should cover the horse's back from the front of the withers to the croup.
LENGTH - measure in a straight line from the centre of the horse's chest, around the shoulder in a continuous straight line to the furthest point of the hindquarters.
DEPTH - usually standard, although some manufacturers give a choice of extra depth. Measure from the centre point of the back and straight down.
For Full Rug A:
Centre of chest to rear of quarters.
For Exercise Rug B:
Withers to tail.
Bits
All horses' mouths and tongues vary in size and shape, the bit must be the correct size and type for your horse.
MEASURING - Mouthpieces are measured in inches or centimetres, depending on the manufacturer. Straighten the bit and measure from the inside of the loose ring or cheekpiece to the inside of the mouth.
FITTING - Bits should be adjusted so as to wrinkle the corners of the mouth. There should be no more than 1/4" (5mm) play on either side.
Bridles
Although bridles come in standard sizes, each make vary slightly in their measurements. The size of the horse does not always relate to the size of the head.
